Removal





1UR-FSE ENGINE MECHANICAL: CAMSHAFT (for Bank 1): REMOVAL

1. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE Removal

2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

NOTICE:
* w/ Navigation System (for HDD):
After the engine switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, be sure to wait for the time specified in the following table before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

Waiting Time before Disconnecting Cable from Negative (-) Battery Terminal:





* When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.

3. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) for 2WD:

Remove the timing chain cover Removal.

(b) for AWD:

Remove the timing chain cover Removal.

4. SET NO. 1 CYLINDER TO TDC / COMPRESSION Removal

5. REMOVE NO. 1 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1) Removal

6. REMOVE CHAIN TENSIONER SLIPPER (for Bank 1)

7. REMOVE NO. 1 CHAIN VIBRATION DAMPER (for Bank 1) Removal

8. REMOVE CHAIN SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1) Removal

9. REMOVE NO. 3 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY Removal

10. REMOVE CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP (for Bank 1)

(a) Make sure that the knock pin of the camshaft is positioned as shown in the illustration.





(b) Uniformly loosen and remove the 8 bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.





(c) Uniformly loosen and remove the 18 bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.





NOTICE:
Uniformly loosen the bolts while keeping the camshaft level.

(d) Remove the 7 bearing caps.

HINT
Arrange the removed parts in the correct order.

(e) Remove the No. 3 and No. 4 camshafts.

11. REMOVE CAMSHAFT HOUSING SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1)

(a) Remove the camshaft housing by prying between the cylinder head and camshaft housing with a screwdriver.





NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder head and camshaft housing.

HINT
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
