Installation





2UR-GSE ENGINE MECHANICAL: CAMSHAFT: INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL NO. 3 CAMSHAFT

(a) Apply a light coat of engine oil to the camshaft journals.

(b) Install the No. 3 camshaft to the cylinder head sub-assembly.

2. INSTALL NO. 4 CAMSHAFT

(a) Apply a light coat of engine oil to the camshaft journals.

(b) Install the No. 4 camshaft to the cylinder head sub-assembly.

3. INSTALL CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP (for Bank 1)

NOTICE:
When rotating the camshafts without the timing chains installed, be careful to ensure that the valves do not contact the pistons. If contact occurs between the valves and pistons, damage may result.

(a) Make sure that each knock pin of the camshafts is positioned as shown in the illustration.





(b) Apply a light coat of engine oil to the camshaft housing and bearing caps.

(c) Confirm the marks and numbers on the camshaft bearing caps and place them in their proper positions and directions.





(d) Temporarily install the 20 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.

Bank 1:





Torque : 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf)

(e) Tighten the 20 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.

Torque : 19 Nm (190 kgf-cm, 14 ft-lbf)

4. INSTALL CAMSHAFT

(a) Apply a light coat of engine oil to the camshaft journals.

(b) Install the camshaft to the cylinder head sub-assembly.

5. INSTALL NO. 2 CAMSHAFT

(a) Apply a light coat of engine oil to the camshaft journals.

(b) Install the No. 2 camshaft to the cylinder head sub-assembly.

6. INSTALL CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP (for Bank 2)

NOTICE:
When rotating the camshafts without the timing chains installed, be careful to ensure that the valves do not contact the pistons. If contact occurs between the valves and pistons, damage may result.

(b) Apply a light coat of engine oil to the camshaft housing and bearing caps.

(c) Confirm the marks and numbers on the camshaft bearing caps and place them in their proper positions and directions.





(d) Temporarily install the 20 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.

Bank 2:





Torque : 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf)

(e) Tighten the 20 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.

Torque : 19 Nm (190 kgf-cm, 14 ft-lbf)

7. INSTALL NO. 2 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY Reassembly

8. INSTALL CHAIN SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2) Reassembly

9. INSTALL NO. 1 CHAIN VIBRATION DAMPER (for Bank 2) Reassembly

10. INSTALL CHAIN TENSIONER SLIPPER (for Bank 2) Reassembly

11. INSTALL NO. 1 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2) Reassembly

12. INSTALL NO. 3 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1) Reassembly

13. INSTALL CHAIN SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1) Reassembly

14. INSTALL NO. 1 CHAIN VIBRATION DAMPER (for Bank 1) Reassembly

15. INSTALL CHAIN TENSIONER SLIPPER (for Bank 1) Reassembly

16. INSTALL NO. 1 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1) Reassembly

17. TIGHTEN CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY Reassembly

18. INSPECT NO. 1 CYLINDER TO TDC/COMPRESSION Reassembly

19. INSPECT VALVE CLEARANCE Adjustments

20. ADJUST VALVE CLEARANCE Adjustments

21. INSTALL OIL REFLECTOR PLATE LH (for Bank 1) Reassembly

22. INSTALL OIL REFLECTOR PLATE RH (for Bank 2) Reassembly

23. INSTALL TIMING CHAIN COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
