Installation
PROPELLER SHAFT: PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 2GR-FSE 4WD): INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL PROPELLER SHAFT WITH CENTER BEARING ASSEMBLY
(a) Apply grease to the flexible coupling centering bushings.
Grease:
Molybdenum disulphide lithium base NLGI No. 2
(b) Remove SST from the transmission.
SST : 09325-40010
(c) Insert the yoke of the intermediate shaft assembly into the transmission.
NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the oil seal.
* Be careful not to damage the universal joint boot when installing the propeller shaft assembly.
(d) Install the 2 center support bearing washers and No. 1 center support bearing assembly, and temporarily tighten the 2 bolts.
HINT
Reuse any removed adjusting washers.
(e) Align the matchmarks on the differential companion flange and flexible coupling.
Text in Illustration
(f) Install and tighten the 3 bolts, 3 washers and 3 nuts.
Torque : 79 Nm (806 kgf-cm, 58 ft-lbf)
NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the flexible coupling centering bushing.
HINT
The bolts should be installed from the propeller shaft side.
(g) Adjust the dimension between the edge surface of the center support bearing and the edge surface of the cushion to 11.5 to 13.5 mm (0.4528 to 0.5315 in.) respectively as shown in illustration.
(A):
11.5 to 13.5 mm (0.4528 to 0.5315 in.)
(h) Check that the center line of the bracket is at right angles to the shaft axial direction.
(i) Tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque : 49 Nm (501 kgf-cm, 36 ft-lbf)
2. INSPECT AND ADJUST NO. 2 AND NO. 3 JOINT ANGLE
(a) Stabilize the propeller shaft with center bearing assembly and differential.
(1) Turn the propeller shaft several times by hand to stabilize the No. 1 center support bearing assembly.
(b) Check the No. 2 and No. 3 joint angles.
(1) Using SST, measure the installation angle of the intermediate shaft assembly and propeller shaft assembly.
SST : 09370-50010
HINT
SST should be set directly underneath the shaft.
(2) Using SST, measure the installation angle of the differential.
Text in Illustration
SST : 09370-50010
HINT
Measure the installation angle by placing SST in the position shown in the illustration.
(3) Calculate the No. 2 joint angle.
No. 2 joint angle:
A - B = -0°07' to -1°07'
A:
Intermediate shaft assembly installation angle
B:
Propeller shaft assembly installation angle
(4) Calculate the No. 3 joint angle.
No. 3 joint angle:
B - C = 1°07' to 2°07'
B:
Propeller shaft assembly installation angle
C:
Differential installation angle
HINT
If the value is not within the specified range, replace the center support bearing washers with center support bearing washers of an appropriate thickness. The specified value may also be obtained without center support bearing washers installed.
(c) Adjust the No. 2 joint angle.
(1) Select the center support bearing washers for adjustment.
Center Support Bearing Washer
NOTICE:
* The 2 washers should be of the same thickness.
* Do not use 2 or more washers on a bolt.
3. INSTALL OUTSIDE AIR GUIDE PLATE RH
(a) Install the outside air guide plate RH with the 4 nuts.
Torque : 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf)
4. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR
(a) Install the front floor No. 1 heat insulator with the 4 nuts.
Torque : 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf)
5. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
Installation
6. INSPECT FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS
