DRIVE SHAFT: REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY: REMOVAL
HINT
* Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedures listed below are for the LH side.
1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
2. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT
(a) Remove the cotter pin and lock cap.
(b) While depressing the brake pedal, remove the nut.
3. DISCONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 bolts, and disconnect the rear disc brake cylinder.
NOTICE:
Use a wire or equivalent to keep the brake cylinder from hanging down by the flexible hose.
4. REMOVE REAR DISC
5. DISCONNECT REAR SPEED SENSOR
(a) Remove the bolts and disconnect the speed sensor from the axle carrier.
NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the parking brake Disassembly.
7. DISCONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 bolts, and disconnect the parking brake cable.
8. DISCONNECT TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Remove the nut.
(b) Using SST, disconnect the toe control link from the axle carrier.

NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the dust cover.
9. DISCONNECT REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Remove the bolt and nut, and disconnect the suspension arm.
10. DISCONNECT REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Remove the nut.
(b) Using SST, disconnect the upper control arm from the axle carrier.

NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the dust cover.
(c) Connect the rear axle carrier to the upper control arm, and loosely install the nut.
(d) Using a plastic-faced hammer, tap the rear drive shaft assembly's tip to detach the rear drive shaft assembly.
(e) Remove the nut and disconnect the upper control arm.
11. DISCONNECT REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Place matchmarks on the adjusting cam and rear suspension arm.
(b) Remove the nut, No. 2 camber adjusting cam and No. 1 camber adjusting cam. Then disconnect the rear suspension arm and remove the axle carrier assembly.
12. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and member brace.
13. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Push the rear axle carrier toward the outside of the vehicle. Using a plastic-faced hammer, disconnect the rear drive shaft from the rear axle carrier.
NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the joint boot and speed sensor.
* Do not push out the rear axle carrier excessively.
* Use a wire or equivalent to keep the rear drive shaft assembly from hanging down.
(b) Using SST, remove the rear drive shaft.

NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the oil seal, inboard joint boot and drive shaft dust cover.
* Be careful not to drop the drive shaft.
14. INSPECT REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Check that there is no excessive play in the outboard joint.
(b) Check that there is no excessive play in the outboard joint.
(c) Check that the inboard joint slides smoothly in the thrust direction.
(d) Check that there is no excessive play in the radial direction of the inboard joint.
(e) Check the boots for damage.
