DTC P062E - No. 2 Fuel Injector Driver Circuit Performance

DESCRIPTION

The D-4S system has two fuel injection methods. One is the in-cylinder direct injection method that directly injects pressurized fuel into the combustion chamber. The other is the intake port injection method. The ECM determines which fuel injection method to use in accordance with the engine conditions. For the in-cylinder direction injection method, the 2 injector drivers (EDU) in the engine room operate the fuel injectors (for direction injection) at high speeds.
Each EDU receives fuel injection request signals from the ECM and converts the signals to high voltage / high current injector operation signals to operate the fuel injectors (for direction injection). The fuel injection sequence occurs in the following order: No. 1, No. 8, No. 7, No. 3, No. 6, No. 5, No. 4, No. 2. The ECM monitors each EDU at all times. If drivers or injectors are malfunctioning, the EDU sends fuel injector operation condition fail signals (INJ1 to INJ4) to the ECM. When the ECM receives the signals, the ECM stops the fuel injection control of the appropriate cylinders, cuts voltage to the appropriate INJ relay, and illuminates the MIL.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT: Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT INJECTOR DRIVER (POWER SOURCE OF ECU)

(a) Disconnect the E16 or E28 injector driver (EDU) connector.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage (No. 1):

Standard voltage (No. 2):

NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EDU1, 2 FUSE - ECM)
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK FOR DTC

(a) Interchange the injector driver No. 1 and No. 2.
(b) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(c) Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream ON.
(d) Clear DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
NOTE:
Before deleting the DTCs, write them down.
(e) Start the engine.
(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
(g) Read DTC.
Result:

B -- REPLACE INJECTOR DRIVER
A -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL INJECTOR FOR DIRECT INJECTION)
(a) Disconnect the H1 or H2 injector driver (No. 1) connector.
(b) Disconnect the H3 or H4 injector driver (No. 2) connector.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance (No. 1):

Standard resistance (No. 2):

NG -- INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR FOR DIRECT INJECTION
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INJECTOR DRIVER - ECM)

(a) Disconnect the E2 and E3 ECM connectors.
(b) Disconnect the E15 or E27 injector driver (EDU) connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance (Check for open):

Standard resistance (Check for short):

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. INSPECT ENGINE ROOM NO. 2 RELAY BLOCK (INJ1, INJ2 RELAY)

HINT: The INJ1 and INJ2 relay cannot be removed and inspected, as they are part of the engine room No. 2 junction block internal circuit.
(a) Remove the terminal cover.
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:

NG -- REPLACE ENGINE ROOM NO. 2 RELAY BLOCK
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EDU1, 2 FUSE - ECM)

(a) Remove the EDU1, EDU2 fuse from the engine room No. 2 junction block.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:

(c) Disconnect the E16 or E28 injector driver (EDU) connector.
(d) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance (Check for open):

Standard resistance (Check for short):

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE ENGINE ROOM NO. 2 JUNCTION BLOCK
7. INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR FOR DIRECT INJECTION
(a) Check the resistance of the fuel injector for direct injection Fuel Injector (for Direct Injection).
NG -- REPLACE FUEL INJECTOR FOR DIRECT INJECTION
OK -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
