REMOVAL
1. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE
HINT:
Service Precautions.
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
NOTE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.
3. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
HINT:

4. SET NO. 1 CYLINDER TO TDC/COMPRESSION Disassembly
5. REMOVE NO. 1 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1) Disassembly
6. REMOVE CHAIN TENSIONER SLIPPER (for Bank 1)
7. REMOVE NO. 1 CHAIN VIBRATION DAMPER (for Bank 1) Disassembly
8. REMOVE CHAIN SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1) Disassembly
9. REMOVE NO. 3 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY Disassembly
10. REMOVE CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP (for Bank 1)
(a) Make sure that the knock pin of the camshaft is positioned as shown in the illustration.
(b) Uniformly loosen and remove the 8 bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
(c) Uniformly loosen and remove the 18 bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
NOTE:
Uniformly loosen the bolts while keeping the camshaft level.
(d) Remove the 7 bearing caps.
HINT: Arrange the removed parts in the correct order.
(e) Remove the No. 3 and No. 4 camshafts.
11. REMOVE CAMSHAFT HOUSING SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1)
(a) Remove the camshaft housing by prying between the cylinder head and camshaft housing with a screwdriver.
NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder head and camshaft housing.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
