P0980
DTC P0980 SHIFT SOLENOID "C" CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH (SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE S3)CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
DTC Detection Condition:
Shifting from 1st to 5th gear is done with the ECM-controlled ON and OFF operation of shift solenoid valves S1, S2 and S3.If an open or short circuit occurs in any of the shift solenoid valves, the ECM controls the remaining normal shift solenoid valve(s) to allow the vehicle to be operated smoothly (fail-safe function).
HINT: Check shift solenoid valve S1 when DTCs P0973 and P0974 are output, check shift solenoid valve S2 when DTCs P0976 and P0977 are output, and check shift solenoid valve S3 when DTCs P0979 and P0980 are output.
Fail-safe function:
If any of the shift solenoid valve circuits develops an open or short, the ECM turns the other shift solenoid ON and OFF to shift to the gear positions as shown in the table. The ECM also turns the shift solenoid valve SL OFF at the same time.
If both solenoids are malfunctioning, hydraulic control cannot be done electronically so it must be done manually. Manual shifting, as shown in the following table, must be performed. For a short circuit, the ECM stops sending current to the short circuited solenoid.
MONITOR DESCRIPTION

Typical Enabling Conditions:
Typical Malfunction Thresholds:
Component Operating Range:
The ECM controls gear shift by turning the shift solenoid valves ON/OFF. When an open or short circuit in a shift solenoid valve circuit is detected by the ECM, it will illuminate the MIL and store the DTC. Then the ECM performs the fail-safe function and turns the properly functioning shift solenoid valves ON/OFF. In case of an open or short circuit, the ECM stops sending current to the circuit.
