Removal and Installation
Components
NOTICE:
- If the wiring connector of the supplemental restraint system is disconnected with the ignition switch at ON or ACC, diagnostic trouble codes will be recorded.
- Never use SRS parts from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace with new parts.
1. DISCONNECT BATTERY
a. Remove negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait at least 90 seconds.
b. Remove the glove compartment door finish plate inside the glove compartment.
1. DISCONNECT AIRBAG CONNECTOR
- Disconnect the airbag connector.
NOTICE: When disconnecting the front passenger airbag connector, take care not to pull the airbag wire harness.
3. REMOVE THESE PARTS:
- Under panel No.2
- Glove compartment door
4. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 7 bolts.
b. Remove the front passenger airbag assembly.
CAUTION:
- Do not store the front passenger airbag assembly with the airbag door facing down.
- Never disassemble the front passenger airbag assembly.
5. ASSEMBLE AIRBAG DOOR AND FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
CAUTION:
- Be sure to replace the new airbag door and the new airbag assembly (w/o Airbag door) in combination, not separately.
- When installing airbag door, always use new bolts and screws.
- Do not store the front passenger airbag assembly with the airbag door or airbag door installation side facing down.
- Never disassemble the front passenger airbag assembly.
- Make sure the airbag door has no scratches, cracks, peeling or deformation.
- When installing the airbag door, do not let any foreign particles get into the airbag assembly.
- When installing the airbag door, do not pinch or otherwise damage the bag.
a. Install the airbag door with the 3 new nuts.
Torque: 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lb)
b. Using a riveter, install the 2 rivets.
6. INSTALL FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
a. Install the front passenger airbag assembly with the 7 bolts.
b. To instrument panel reinforcement
Diameter = 8 mm (0.32 in.)
Torque: 20 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft-lb)
To instrument panel
Diameter = 6 mm (0.24 in.)
Torque: 5.5 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lb)
NOTICE:
- Make sure the front passenger airbag assembly is installed to the specified torque.
- If the front passenger airbag assembly has been dropped. or there are cracks. dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the front passenger airbag assembly with a new one.
- When installing the front passenger airbag assembly, take care that the wiring do not interfere with other parts and are not pinched between other parts.
7. INSTALL THESE PARTS:
^ Glove compartment door
^ Under panel No.2
HINT: When installing the glove compartment, carefully pull the airbag wire harness out from the glove compartment upper hole.
NOTICE: Do not pull the airbag wire harnesses too strongly.
8. CONNECT AIRBAG CONNECTOR
a. Connect the airbag connector.
b. Put the connector on the glove compartment door finish plate.
c. Install the glove compartment door finish plate to the glove compartment.
