Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Place the transmission in neutral.
2. Release the park brake, if applied.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) .
4. Mark the rear universal joint to the drive shaft flange.




5. Remove the retaining bolts and clamps.
6. Remove the propeller shaft from the pinion drive flange.




7. Remove the propeller shaft from the transmission/transfer case.




8. Using tape or a rubber band, wrap the U-Joint bearing caps to ensure the bearing caps do not separate from the U-Joint.



Installation Procedure





1. Remove the tape or rubber band from the U-Joint.




2. Install the propeller shaft in the transmission/transfer case.




3. Align the propeller shaft with the reference marks on the pinion flange.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

4. Install the clamps and retaining bolts.

Tighten the retaining bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

5. Lower the vehicle.
