SRS indicator stays on, but no DTCs are stored, or cannot be read
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and see if the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) comes on and stays on.
Does the MIL come on?
YES -
Go to MIL Circuit Troubleshooting:�
- R18A1 engine MIL Circuit Troubleshooting
- K20Z1 engine MIL Circuit Troubleshooting
NO -
Go to step 2.
2. Read the DTC.
Are any SRS DTCs indicated?
YES -
Do the SRS DTC troubleshooting.
NO -
Go to step 3.
3. Check for body electrical DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC B1187 indicated?
YES -
Troubleshoot DTC B1187 B1187.�
NO -
Go to step 4.
4. Do the gauge self-diagnostic function Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
Does the SRS indicator blink?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Faulty gauge control module (tach); replace the gauge control module (tach) Gauge Control Module Replacement.�
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
6. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
7. Disconnect SRS unit connector A (28P) from the SRS unit.
8. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 5 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Faulty SRS unit or poor connection at SRS unit connector A (28P) and the SRS unit. Check the connection between the connector and the SRS unit. If the connection is OK, replace the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement. If the DTC does not clear, replace the harness.�
NO -
Short to ground in the dashboard wire harness; replace the dashboard wire harness.�
