Front Passenger's Airbag Replacement

NOTE: If replacing the front passenger's airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment Service and Repair for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.

Removal

1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure Procedures, then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Remove the glove box Service and Repair.

3. Disconnect the dashboard wire harness 4P connector (A) from the front passenger's airbag 4P connector.





4. Remove the center panel:

- Audio-navigation unit, with navigation:
- '06-08 models
- '09-11 models Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation)

- Audio unit, without navigation:
- '06-08 models
- '09-11 models Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation)

5. Remove the three mounting nuts (A) from the bracket. Cover the front passenger's lid and dashboard with a cloth, and pry carefully with a screwdriver to lift the front passenger's airbag assembly (B) out of the dashboard. If you are replacing only the front passenger's lid, go to step 6.

NOTE: The airbag lid has pawls (C) on each side where attach it to the dashboard.










6. Cut the four parts (A) of the front passenger's lid (B) as shown, and remove the front passenger's airbag.

NOTE:

- Always replace the front passenger's lid whenever you remove the front passenger's airbag from the lid.
- Replace the front passenger's airbag if the airbag mounting hooks or its housing is damaged.





7. Insert the hooks (A) of the front passenger's airbag housing into the new front passenger's lid, then insert the other hooks (B) into the lid.

NOTE:

- Make sure there are no objects between the airbag and the front passenger's lid.
- Make sure the airbag is fully seated, and make sure the front passenger's lid is not deformed or damaged after the airbag is in place.
- Do not use tools when detaching the front passenger's airbag in order to protect it.
- Make sure the hooks are set properly.






Installation

1. Place the front passenger's airbag assembly (A) into the dashboard, then install the new mounting nuts (B).






2. Connect the front passenger's airbag 4P connector to dashboard wire harness 4P connector (A), then reinstall the glove box and center panel.





3. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure Procedures.

4. Clear any DTCs.

5. After installing the front passenger's airbag, confirm proper system operation: Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

6. Reinstall all removed parts.
