Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement

Special Tools Required

- KTC Trim Tool Set SOJATP2014
- Trim Pad Remover Snap-on A 177A or equivalent, commercially available

Do the OPDS sensor initialization; with the HDS, without the HDS after front passenger's seat-back cover replacement.

NOTE:

- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to tear or damage the seat covers.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
- Passenger's seat: Do not touch the OPDS sensor in the seat-back cover/pad, and keep it away from oil. Oil can corrode the sensor causing it to fail.
- The driver's seat is shown; the passenger's seat is similar.

1. Remove the front seat Front Seat Removal/Installation.

2. Remove the head restraint.

3. From under the seat cushion, detach the side airbag connector clip (A). Disconnect the seat-back heater connector (B) (driver's seat with seat heater).

4. Release the hooks (C) from the seat cushion frame spring (D). Remove the wire ties (E), and pull out the side airbag harness (F) and seat-back heater harness (G) (driver's seat with seat heater) through the slits (H) in the seat cushion cover (I). Turn over the seat cushion cover, and release the hooks (J).

5. Starting at the top corner of the front seat-back panel (A), slip your fingers between the seat-back frame and the panel. Gently pull down the panel down and toward you to release the three hooks (B) along the top of the panel.

NOTE: Make sure the top seat-back panel hooks are free from the seat-back cover fabric (C).





6. Carefully pull back on the seat-back panel to release the remaining hooks (D) on the sides of the panel.

7. Once all of the hooks are released, lift up on the seat-back panel (A) and gently wiggle the panel side-to-side to release the two clips at the bottom of the panel, then remove the panel.

NOTE: Remove and replace the two clips on the bottom of the seat back frame. These clips usually break during removal and must be replaced.






8. Release the hook strips (A), then loosen the seat-back cover (B). Pull out the side airbag harness (C) with the harness guides (D) through the holes in the seat cushion cover (E). Passenger's seat is shown; driver's seat is similar.






9. Detach the harness clip (A), and pull out the side airbag harness (B) through the harness hole (C) in the seat-back cover and the seat frame. Passenger's seat is shown; driver's seat is similar.






10. Release the hook strips (A), then loosen the seat-back cover (B).






11. Remove the side airbag Side Airbag Replacement.

12. Turn over the reinforcing cloth (A), then release the hooks (B) from the side airbag module holder (C). Passenger's seat is shown; driver's seat is similar.






13. Passenger's seat: Disconnect the OPDS sensor connectors (A) and the ODS unit connector (B) from the ODS unit (C), and pull out them through the hole in the seat frame. Pull out the ODS subharness (D) through the harness hole (E) in the seat-back cover (F). Detach the harness clips (G), and remove the wire tie (H).






14. Pinch the tabs on the ends of the head restraint guides (A), and remove them from the seat-back.






15. Remove the seat-back cover/pad (A) from the seat-back frame (B).






16. Pull back the edge of the seat-back cover (A) all the way around, and release the upholstery rings (B), then remove the cover.






17. Install the seat-back cover in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them new ones.
- To prevent wrinkles when installing the seat-back cover, make sure the material is stretched evenly over the pad before securing the upholstery rings, the hooks, and the hook strips.
- Replace all of the upholstery rings (A) fastening the seat-back cover (B) to the pad wires (C) with new ones using commercially available upholstery ring pliers (D).
- Before installing the side airbag (E), make sure the reinforcing cloth (F) is fixed on the seat-back frame (G) securely.
- Use only original Honda replacement seat-back covers.
- Make sure the side airbag harness and ODS subharness (passenger's seat) are routed properly.
- Push the clips and the hooks into place securely.
