Turbocharger - Removal






TURBOCHARGER






NOTE: When servicing the air charge cooler and/or the turbocharger, the air charge hose seal (orange seal) located between the air charge hose and the turbocharger must be replaced.

WARNING: The normal operating temperature of the exhaust system is very high. Never work around or attempt to service any part of the exhaust system until it is cool. Care should be taken when working near the turbocharger. The temperature of the turbocharger rises to a high level after a short period of engine operation time.

NOTE: There is no procedure for repairing the turbocharger. If damage is found during inspection, the turbocharger must be replaced.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the AGM starter negative battery cable located inside the vehicle under the instrument panel near the accelerator pedal.
3. Remove the air box assembly. Air Cleaner - Removal
4. Remove the oil extension filler tube.
5. Remove the engine trim cover.
6. Remove the air intake tube (turbocharger to resonator).
7. Remove the turbocharger heat shield.
8. Remove the turbocharger front bracket retaining bolts (1).





9. Remove the EGR tube at manifold to cylinder head.Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Tube - Removal
10. Remove the catalytic converter (5). Catalytic Converter - Removal
11. Raise and secure the vehicle, remove the front splash shield.
12. Disconnect the transmission fill tube and trim cover bracket and set aside.
13. Remove the two turbocharger manifold to support brace bolts.
14. Remove the left and right exhaust manifold (1, 6) to turbocharger manifold (2) retaining bolts and gaskets.





15. Lower the vehicle.
16. Disconnect the turbocharger boost pressure servo connector.
17. Remove the turbocharger retaining bolts (1).
18. Remove the turbocharger and gasket from the turbocharger oil housing adapter.





19. Remove the turbocharger oil housing adapter (1) and gasket.
20. Remove the turbocharger from the exhaust crossover pipe.
