Pinpoint Test W: The Adaptive Cruise Control Indicator Is Never/Always On (If Equipped)

Normal Operation

When the adaptive cruise control is engaged, the adaptive cruise control indicator is used to inform the driver that a target (another vehicle) has been detected in front of the vehicle and is either prepared to, or is controlling the vehicle speed. The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the cruise control signal from the Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. When the adaptive cruise control is engaged and a target is detected, the C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) sends a message to the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) to illuminate the adaptive cruise control indicator along with the appropriate message center message. If the adaptive cruise control message is missing for more than 300 milliseconds, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC U0104:00 in continuous memory and defaults the adaptive cruise control indicator off.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- C-CM (Cruise-Control Module)

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST W : THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON (IF EQUIPPED)

W1 CHECK THE CRUISE CONTROL OPERATION

- Test drive the vehicle and operate the cruise control.

Does the adaptive cruise control operate correctly?

Yes
GO to W2.

No
REFER to Cruise Control.

W2 CARRY OUT THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DataLogger.

- Select the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) adaptive cruise control indicator (ACC_LAMP) active command. Command the adaptive cruise control indicator on and off while observing the adaptive cruise control indicator.

Does the adaptive cruise control indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
GO to W3.

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

W3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC U0104:00 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AT. Pinpoint Test AT: DTC U0104:00

No
GO to W4.

W4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded DTCs from the C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) self-test.

Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Cruise Control.

No
INSTALL a new C-CM (Cruise-Control Module). TEST the system for normal operation.
