Pinpoint Test R: The Anti-Theft Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

On vehicles without Intelligent Access (IA), the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) interacts with the PCM and controls the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) function. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) controls the anti-theft indicator based upon the status of the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System).

On vehicles equipped with IA (Intelligent Access), the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module interacts with the PCM and controls the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) function. The anti-theft indicator only flashes at ignition off in a vehicle equipped with IA (Intelligent Access) to act as a visual theft deterrent and is not used in any other ignition state.

The anti-theft indicator proves out for 3 seconds when the key is turned to the ON or START position. For vehicles not equipped with IA (Intelligent Access), if there is a PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) concern, the anti-theft indicator either flashes rapidly or glows steadily (for more than 3 seconds) when the ignition is switched to the ON or the START mode. PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) also flashes the anti-theft indicator every 2 seconds at ignition off to act as a visual theft deterrent for all vehicles.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) concern

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST R : THE ANTI-THEFT INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

R1 CARRY OUT THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) ANTI-THEFT INDICATOR ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DataLogger.

- Select the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) anti-theft indicator (THEFT_LMP) active command. Command the anti-theft indicator on and off while observing the anti-theft indicator.

Does the anti-theft indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
For vehicles with IA (Intelligent Access), GO to R3.

For vehicles without IA (Intelligent Access), GO to R2.

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

R2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE CONTINUOUS IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs from the continuous self-test.

Are any PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) -related DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Antitheft and Alarm Systems.

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

R3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE CONTINUOUS IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded DTCs from the continuous IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC U0214:00 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test BC. Pinpoint Test BC: DTC U0214:00

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
