Pinpoint Test AA: The Door Ajar Message Center Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the door ajar switch status for the LH front door, RH front door, LH rear door and the RH rear door status from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication bus. When the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives a message from the SJB (Smart Junction Box) that one or more doors are open or ajar, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) turns on the door ajar message center warning indicator. If the door ajar status message is missing for greater than 5 seconds, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC U0140:00 and defaults the door ajar message center warning indicator on.

NOTE: If DTC U0140:00 is set in the SJB (Smart Junction Box), other symptoms may also be present in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) such as high beam indicator, RH/LH turn indicators, instrument panel backlighting and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Interior lighting concern

- SJB (Smart Junction Box)

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST AA : THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

AA1 CHECK THE INTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION

- Open and close each door while monitoring the courtesy lamps.

Do the courtesy lamps operate correctly with each door?

Yes
GO to AA2.

No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.

AA2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE CONTINUOUS IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded DTCs from the continuous IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC U0140:00 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AW. Pinpoint Test AW: DTC U0140:00

No
GO to AA3.

AA3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SJB (Smart Junction Box) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded DTCs from the SJB (Smart Junction Box) self-test.

Are any SJB (Smart Junction Box) DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Body Control Systems for correct navigation of the DTC.

No
GO to AA4.

AA4 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: PCM C175B.

- Ignition ON.

- Monitor the message center display area with the PCM disconnected.

Does the message center display the powertrain malfunction (wrench) message center warning indicator?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB (Smart Junction Box). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
