DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks
- Inspect the headlamp switch for damage.
- Inspect the light sensor for damage.
Pinpoint Test
1. CHECK FOR BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)
1. Ignition ON.
2. NOTE: For DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B1A85:2F, follow the diagnostics for B1A85:21 or B1A85:22.
Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.
Are any DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) present?
2. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LIGHT SENSOR (NO DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes))
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Light Sensor.
3. Ignition ON.
4. Measure:
Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
3. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LIGHT SENSOR (DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B1A85:21)
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Light Sensor.
3. Ignition ON.
4. Measure:
Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
4. CHECK THE LIGHT SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280C.
3. Measure:
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
5. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LIGHT SENSOR (DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B1A85:22)
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Light Sensor.
3. Ignition ON.
4. Measure:
Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
6. CHECK THE LIGHT SENSOR
1. Measure:
Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
7. CHECK THE LIGHT SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280C.
3. Measure:
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
8. CHECK THE LIGHT SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280C.
3. Disconnect: Ignition Relay.
4. Connect a fused jumper wire:
5. Measure:
Is any voltage present?
9. CHECK THE LIGHT SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Measure:
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
10. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (Body Control Module) OPERATION
1. Disconnect and inspect all BCM (Body Control Module) connectors.
2. Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary
3. Reconnect the BCM (Body Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
