Diagnostic Overview
The Low Fuel Indicator Is Never or Always On
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
REFER to Low Fuel Indicator .
If the fuel level status message is missing for less than 33 seconds, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) defaults the low fuel indicator to its last state (on or off) based upon the last known good message received.
If the fuel level status message is missing for 33 seconds or longer, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0140:00 in continuous memory, defaults fuel gauge to empty (E) and the low fuel indicator on.
Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Prechecks
If the low fuel indicator is never on, verify the fuel level is less than 8 L (2.11 gal) before beginning diagnostics. If the low fuel indicator is always on, verify the fuel level is above 8 L (2.11 gal) before beginning diagnostics.
