Diagnostic Overview

The Audio System Does Not Operate Correctly From The FCIM

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 130 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

REFER to Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) .

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) BUTTON PIDs (Parameter Identifications)

1. Ignition ON.

2. Using a scan tool, view FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).

3. NOTE: The button PIDs (Parameter Identifications) begin with the prefix "BTN_" and end with the indicated button. For example, PID (Parameter Identification) BTN_FM correlates with the FM (Frequency Modulation) button on the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module).
Monitor several of the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) button PIDs (Parameter Identifications) while pressing several different buttons.

Do the PID (Parameter Identification) states agree with the button presses?

2. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module)

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module).

3. Ignition ON.

4. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

3. CHECK THE FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

4. CHECK THE LIN (Local Interconnect Network) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module).

3. Ignition ON.

4. Measure:

Is any voltage present?

5. CHECK THE LIN (Local Interconnect Network) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

6. CHECK THE LIN (Local Interconnect Network) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

7. CHECK FOR CORRECT FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) connector.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connectors or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

4. Reconnect the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
