Diagnostic Overview

The Engine Does Not Start

Normal Operations and Fault Conditions

REFER to Passive Anti-Theft System.

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK IF THE ENGINE CRANKS

1. Ignition START.

Does the engine attempt to crank?






2. CHECK FOR COMMUNICATION WITH THE PCM (Powertrain Control Module) AND THE BCM (Body Control Module)

1. Ignition ON.

2. Using a scan tool, perform the network test.

Does the scan tool establish communication with the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) and the BCM (Body Control Module)?






3. CHECK FOR PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)

1. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test to retrieve DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

2. Using a scan tool, perform the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) self-test to retrieve DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

Are any PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) present?
