Pinpoint Test AH: The SHIFT TO PARK Message Is Inoperative/Always On (With Intelligent Access (IA) Only)
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 60, Instrument Cluster for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) displays SHIFT TO PARK when the vehicle was turned off with the shifter out of the PARK (P) position. The Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module receives a park detect input from the selector lever. When the selector lever is in the PARK (P) position, the park detect switch opens removing the ground to the RFA module. When the selector lever is out of the PARK (P) position, the park detect switch closes and grounds the input to the RFA module. The RFA module sends a command to the IPC over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication bus to display the SHIFT TO PARK message.
- DTC P081C:11 (Park Input Circuit: Circuit Short to Ground) - an on-demand DTC that sets if the RFA module detects a short to ground on park input circuit.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Message center concern
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Park detect switch (part of the selector lever)
- RFA module
PINPOINT TEST AH: THE SHIFT TO PARK MESSAGE IS INOPERATIVE/ALWAYS ON (WITH IA ONLY)
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
NOTE: Failure to disconnect the battery when instructed will result in false resistance readings. Refer to Battery.
-------------------------------------------------
AH1 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION
- Close all doors, hood and luggage compartment lid.
- Ignition ON.
- Open the driver door while monitoring the message center displays.
- Does the message center display DRIVER DOOR AJAR?
Yes
GO to AH2.
No
GO to Pinpoint Test AF. Pinpoint Tests AF: The Message Center Is Not Operating Correctly
-------------------------------------------------
AH2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC self-test.
- Is DTC U0214:00 recorded?
Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test BC. Pinpoint Tests BC: DTC U0214:00
No
If the SHIFT TO PARK message is always on, GO to AH3.
If the SHIFT TO PARK message in inoperative, GO to AH5.
-------------------------------------------------
AH3 CHECK THE PARK DETECT INPUT TO THE RFA MODULE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Selector Lever C3245.
- Monitor the SHIFT TO PARK message in the message center.
- Does the SHIFT TO PARK message turn off?
Yes
INSTALL a new selector lever. REFER to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to AH4.
-------------------------------------------------
AH4 CHECK THE PARK INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: RFA Module C2153d.
- Measure the resistance between the RFA module C2153d-20, circuit CDC41 (WH/BN), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to Body Control Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit CDC41 (WH/BN) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
AH5 CHECK THE SELECTOR LEVER OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Selector Lever C3245.
- Connect a fused jumper wire between the selector lever C3245-2, circuit CDC41 (WH/BN), harness side and ground.
- Ignition OFF.
- Monitor the SHIFT TO PARK message in the message center.
- Does the SHIFT TO PARK message turn on?
Yes
INSTALL a new selector lever. REFER to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
LEAVE the jumper wire connected. GO to AH6.
-------------------------------------------------
AH6 CHECK THE SELECTOR LEVER INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
- Disconnect: RFA Module C2153d.
- Measure the resistance between the RFA module C2153d-20, circuit CDC41 (WH/BN), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to Body Control Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit CDC41 (WH/BN) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
