Pinpoint Test V: The Cruise Control Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

If equipped with adaptive cruise control, the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the cruise control set message from the Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. If not equipped with adaptive cruise control, the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the cruise control signal from the PCM over the HS-CAN communication bus. When the cruise control is engaged, the PCM or the C-CM sends a message to the IPC to illuminate the cruise control indicator. If the cruise control message is missing for more than 5 seconds, the IPC sets DTC U0100:00 (without adaptive cruise control) or DTC U0104:00 (with adaptive cruise control) in continuous memory and defaults the cruise control indicator off.

NOTE: If DTC U0100:00 is set in the IPC, other observable symptoms may be an inoperative speedometer, tachometer or odometer.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- PCM
- C-CM
- IPC



PINPOINT TEST V: THE CRUISE CONTROL INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

V1 CHECK THE CRUISE CONTROL OPERATION


- Check the cruise control system for correct operation.
- Does the cruise control operate correctly?

Yes
GO to V2.

No
REFER to Fire Suppression System.

V2 CARRY OUT THE IPC INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL


- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC DataLogger.
- Select the IPC cruise control indicator (CRUISE) active command. Command the cruise control indicator on and off while observing the cruise control indicator.
- Does the cruise control indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
GO to V3.

No
INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). TEST the system for normal operation.

V3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC U0100:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AR. Pinpoint Tests AR: DTC U0100:00

For DTC U0104:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AT. Pinpoint Tests AT: DTC U0104:00

For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes

No
For vehicles with adaptive cruise control, INSTALL a new C-CM. REFER to Fire Suppression System. TEST the system for normal operation.

For vehicles without adaptive cruise control, INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to Computers and Control Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.
