Seat Backrest - Front





Removal

NOTICE: If the passenger seat is equipped with an Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) bladder system, to prevent system failure, it is necessary to carry out the OCS system reset when a front passenger seat cushion is disassembled, a new cushion cover installed or an OCS system service kit is installed. Refer to the General Procedures portion of Restraint Systems. A scan tool is used to carry out the OCS system reset.

NOTE: For parts identification and location, refer to Seat - Exploded View, Front Seat - Exploded View, Front.

1. Remove the seat. For additional information, refer to Seat - Front Seat - Front.

2. NOTE: Note wire harness and hose routing for installation.

Detach the carpet flap toe-kick retainers from under the seat.





3. Remove the recliner cover.

1. Remove the screw.

2. Remove the scrivet.

3. Lift and release the hook.





4. If equipped, remove the manual recline handle.

1. Locate the manual recline handle clip under the cushion side shield.

2. Remove the clip and slide the handle off the shaft.





5. If equipped, remove the manual lumbar handle.

1. Locate the manual lumbar handle clip under the cushion side shield.

2. Remove the clip and slide the handle off the shaft.





6. If equipped, from the front of the seat, detach the wire harness retainer and disconnect the seat control switch electrical connectors.





7. For manual seat tracks, remove the cushion side shield.

1. Remove the screw at the back.

2. Remove the scrivet at the back.

3. Remove the screw at the front.

4. Squeeze the 2 retainer tabs together and position through the sheet metal.

5. Pull out to release the 3 retaining clips.





8. For 6-way and 10-way power seats, remove the cushion side shield.

1. Remove the screw at the back.

2. Remove the scrivet at the back.

3. Remove the screw at the front.

4. Pull out and release the 3 retaining clips.

5. Slide the cushion side shield forward to detach from the seat track bracket.

6. Disconnect the seat control switch electrical connector.

7. Disconnect the memory set switch electrical connector (if equipped).





9. For 14-way power seats, remove the cushion side shield.

1. Remove the screw at the back.

2. Remove the scrivet at the back.

3. Remove the screw at the front.

4. Pull out and release the 3 retaining clips.

5. Slide down and separate the hook.

6. Disconnect the memory set switch electrical connector (if equipped).





10. Detach the cushion cover from the outboard recliner.





11. If equipped, separate the manual lumbar cable cover.

1. Detach the cushion cover outboard J-clips and position the cushion cover flap up.

2. Separate the cable retainer.

3. Pull the cable cover out of the adjuster.





12. If equipped, remove the manual lumbar cable from the adjuster.





13. NOTE: Note wire harness routing for installation.

Release the side air bag module electrical connector and wire harness retainers under the seat.





14. Disconnect the side air bag module electrical connector.

1. Slide the locking clip back.

2. Push the tab in and disconnect the electrical connector.





15. NOTE: Note wire harness routing for installation.

If equipped, disconnect the backrest electrical connector and release the wire harness retainers attached under the seat.





16. If equipped, separate the hoses.
- Push the 4 release buttons in and disconnect the 4 hoses.





17. WARNING: Use care when the seat back frame is removed and when releasing the recliners from a backrest upright position. The recliners are spring-loaded, which may cause the recliner upper arms to fold with significant speed/force. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
Remove the 4 recliner-to-seat track bolts and remove the backrest assembly.
- Route the wire harness(es) and air hoses (if equipped) out of the hole(s) in the carpet flap toe-kick.

Installation

All seats

1. Route the wire harness(es) and air hoses (if equipped) through the hole(s) in the carpet flap toe-kick.





2. Position the backrest assembly to the seat track and start the 4 recliner-to-seat track bolts by hand.
- Route the manual lumbar cable between the backrest and cushion and to the inside of the recliner (if equipped).

Driver seat

3. Tighten the 4 recliner-to-seat track bolts.

1. Tighten the rear outboard bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

2. Tighten the rear inboard bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

3. Tighten the front inboard bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

4. Tighten the front outboard bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).





Passenger seat

4. Tighten the 4 recliner-to-seat track bolts.

1. Tighten the rear outboard bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

2. Tighten the rear inboard bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

3. Tighten the front inboard bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

4. Tighten the front outboard bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).





All seats

5. If equipped, match the color-coded hoses to each other and connect together.

6. If equipped, connect the backrest electrical connector and attach the wire harness retainers under the seat.

7. Connect the side air bag module electrical connector and slide the locking clip to the lock position.





8. Attach the side air bag module electrical connector and wire harness retainers under the seat.

9. If equipped, install the manual lumbar cable in the following sequence.

1. Position the manual lumbar cable into the adjuster.

2. Position the manual lumbar cable cover into the adjuster.

3. Install the manual lumbar cable retainer.

4. Position the cushion cover flap back around the side of the seat and attach the outboard J-clips.

10. Attach the cushion cover around the outboard recliner.

11. Install the cushion side shield in the following sequence.

1. Return all retaining clips back to the cushion side shield before installing the shield.

2. Connect the memory SET switch electrical connector (if equipped).

3. Connect the seat control switch electrical connector, if equipped with 6- or 10-way power seat.

4. Attach the hook retainer behind the cushion frame (if equipped).

5. Align the cushion side shield to the bracket, slide rearward and engage (if equipped).

6. Align and attach the retaining clips.

7. Install the screw at the front.

8. Install the screw at the back.

9. Install the scrivet at the back.

12. If equipped, from the front of the seat, connect the seat control switch electrical connectors and attach the wire harness retainer.

13. If equipped, install the manual lumbar handle in the following sequence.

1. Install the clip onto the manual lumbar handle.

2. Align the splines of the manual lumbar handle to the manual lumbar shaft.

3. Push the manual lumbar handle onto the manual lumbar shaft, seating the clip.

14. If equipped, install the manual recliner handle in the following sequence.

1. Install the clip onto the manual recliner handle.

2. Align the splines of the manual recliner handle to the manual recliner shaft.

3. Push the manual recliner handle onto the manual recliner shaft, seating the clip.

15. Install the recliner cover in the following sequence.

1. Attach the hook at the front of the recliner cover.

2. Install the screw.

3. Install the scrivet.

16. Attach the carpet flap toe-kick retainers under the seat.

17. NOTE: To identify the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) system, refer to Seat - Exploded View, Front Seat - Exploded View, Front.
Install the seat. If a passenger seat with an OCS bladder system has been serviced, do not prove out the SRS within the seat installation procedure. Proceed to the next step here after the seat has been installed in the vehicle and repower has been done. For additional information, refer to Seat - Front Seat - Front.

18. Carry out the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) System Reset. For additional information, refer to the General Procedures portion of Restraint Systems.
