Pinpoint Test Q: DTC U0423:68
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 14, Module Communications Network for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
The Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module and the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) communicate using the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN). Messages are exchanged between the modules on the MS-CAN.
- DTC U0423:68 (Invalid Data Received From Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Control Module: Event Information) - set by the RFA module if more than 2500 ms of the DRV_SELECT_RANGE or more than 300 Engine_Data messages are invalid in 5 minutes from the IPC over the MS-CAN.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Module communication
- IPC
- RFA module
PINPOINT TEST Q: DTC U0423:68
NOTE: The ignition must be OFF to carry out the RFA module self-test.
-------------------------------------------------
Q1 VERIFY CUSTOMER CONCERN
- Ignition ON.
- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.
- Is an observable symptom present?
Yes
GO to Q2.
No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.
-------------------------------------------------
Q2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Carry out the network test.
- Does the IPC pass the network test?
Yes
GO to Q3.
No
REFER to Information Bus.
-------------------------------------------------
Q3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded RFA module DTCs from the self-test.
- Is DTC U3000:49 or DTC U3003:62 recorded?
Yes
For DTC U3000:49, REFER to DTC Charts. Remote Function Actuator (RFA) Module
For DTC U3003:62, REFER to Antitheft and Alarm Systems.
No
GO to Q4.
-------------------------------------------------
Q4 RECHECK THE RFA MODULE DTCs
NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI may not have been carried out.
- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the RFA module self-test.
- Is DTC U0423:68 still present?
Yes
GO to Q5.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.
-------------------------------------------------
Q5 CHECK FOR DTC U0423:68 IN OTHER MODULES
NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during PMI or the PMI may not have been carried out.
- Clear all DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.
- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.
- Is DTC U0423:68 set in the Head Up Display (HUD) module or HVAC module?
Yes
INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to Remote Function Actuator (RFA) Module Remote Function Actuator (RFA) Module. RESET the parameters in both the RFA module and the PCM. REFER to Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Parameter Reset - Intelligent Access (IA) in Antitheft and Alarm Systems. TEST the system for normal operation. With Intelligent Access (IA)
