Pinpoint Test N: DTC U0100:87

Normal Operation

The Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module and the PCM communicate using the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). Messages are exchanged between the modules on the HS-CAN.

- DTC U0100:87 (Lost Communication With ECM/PCM "A": Missing Message) - set by the RFA module if more than 62 messages in a row from the PCM over the HS-CAN are missing.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:


- Module communication
- RFA module
- PCM



PINPOINT TEST N: DTC U0100:87

NOTE: The ignition must be OFF to carry out the RFA module self-test.

N1 VERIFY CUSTOMER CONCERN


- Ignition ON.
- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.
- Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to N2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.

N2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK


- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Carry out the network test.
- Does the Smart Junction Box (SJB) pass the network test?

Yes
GO to N3.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

N3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded RFA module DTCs from the self-test.
- Is DTC U3000:49 or DTC U3003:62 recorded?

Yes
For DTC U3000:49, GO to DTC Charts. Remote Function Actuator (RFA) Module

For DTC U3003:62, REFER to Antitheft and Alarm Systems.

No
GO to N4.

N4 RECHECK THE RFA MODULE DTCs


NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI may not have been carried out.

- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the RFA module self-test.
- Is DTC U0100:87 still present?

Yes
GO to N5.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.

N5 CHECK FOR DTC U0100:00/U0100:87 IN OTHER MODULES


NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during PMI or the PMI may not have been carried out.

- Clear all DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.
- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.
- Is DTC U0100:00/U0100:87 set in other modules?

Yes
INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to Computers and Control Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to Remote Function Actuator (RFA) Module Remote Function Actuator (RFA) Module. RESET the parameters in both the RFA module and the PCM. REFER to Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Parameter Reset - Intelligent Access (IA) in Antitheft and Alarm Systems. TEST the system for normal operation. With Intelligent Access (IA)
