Window Glass Adjustment - Front Door


Initial Adjustment

NOTE: The following procedure must be carried out after a door window glass or a door window regulator and motor is replaced, or removed and re-installed.

NOTE: The LH or RH front window motor must be de-initialized, then initialized whenever the front window motor is removed from the window regulator, a new window regulator and motor is installed, a new window glass is installed or for any operation in which grease or lubricants are applied to the window regulator or glass run.

NOTE: Window glass on convertible top vehicles needs to be aligned/adjusted as a system. The rear quarter glass must be correctly aligned to the front door glass and the convertible top for correct operation. For additional information, refer to Window Glass Adjustment - Rear Quarter, Convertible Adjustments.

1. Remove the door opening weatherstrip.

2. Close the door.

3. Check the dimension of the gap between the door window glass and the weatherstrip retainer in the locations shown. If the dimension is within the specification, only a final adjustment is required.

4. Remove the door trim panel.

5. Remove the water shield and the interior beltline weatherstrip.

6. NOTICE: The exterior beltline weatherstrip contains a metal core surrounded by rubber and must be removed with care. The exterior beltline weatherstrip must be replaced if it is bent during removal.

Remove the exterior beltline weatherstrip.

- Starting at rear of the door, work exterior beltline weatherstrip off from the sheet metal flange with fingers. Technique is to partially remove the exterior beltline weatherstrip approximately every 15.2 cm (6 in) down entire length of the door, and then go back and remove the beltline weatherstrip from the vehicle.

7. NOTE: The glass stabilizer must be replaced if broken during removal.

Remove the mid-door glass stabilizer.

- To remove, gently insert a screwdriver between the sheet metal and plastic backing of the glass stabilizer.

8. If equipped, loosen but do not remove the rear glass management bracket fasteners. This will allow free door glass movement during the adjustment procedure.





9. NOTE: As the door window glass is moved up and down, the door window glass clamps have plastic inserts equipped with ramp-style surfaces that tip the glass in or out as the glass assembly is slid up or down.

Loosen the 2 (front and rear) door window glass bolts.

10. Fully close the door.

11. Adjust the door window glass by physically moving the glass to the specified position and tighten the door window glass bolts.
- Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).

12. From underneath the door, loosen the front window regulator guide rail lock nut.





13. Operate the door window glass to the full DOWN position.

14. Tighten the front window regulator guide rail lock nut.

15. Operate the door window glass to the full UP position and verify the dimensions meet the specification as outlined in the initial adjustment graphics. If necessary, re-adjust the door glass as outlined in the previous steps.

16. NOTE: Door window front height adjustment shown, door window rear height adjustment similar.

To adjust the door window front and rear height, lower the door window to access the front and rear height stop adjustments.





17. NOTE: If necessary, additional door glass adjustment may also be possible by loosening the glass clamp bolts, adjusting the door glass and then re-tightening the glass clamp bolts to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).

Adjust the door window front and rear height stop adjustments to achieve the specified door window height.

18. NOTE: To prevent preloading of the glass management bracket, tighten the screw to specification before tightening the nut.

If equipped, tighten the rear glass management bracket fasteners.

- Tighten the glass management bracket screw to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).

- Tighten the glass management bracket nut to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).





19. Install the mid-door glass stabilizer.

20. Install the exterior beltline weatherstrip.

21. Install the interior beltline weatherstrip and the water shield.

22. Install the door opening weatherstrip.

23. Install the door trim panel.

24. Initialize the door window motor. For additional information, refer to Window Motor Initialization .

25. Operate the door window up and down several times to check for smooth operation and adequate sealing properties (it may be necessary to carry out a water leak test with a hose).


Final Adjustment

1. NOTE: This procedure should be carried out as a final adjustment to the initial adjustment or can be used as a minor adjustment for the door window glass.

NOTE: After the initial adjustment is carried out (or if only a minor adjustment is required) the final adjustment, if necessary, can be made. Use the front and rear window regulator guide rail jackscrews for inboard/outboard movement of the door window glass.

NOTE: The rear adjustment is a jackscrew that is exposed by removing the round reflector located at the bottom of the door trim panel.

NOTE: The front adjustment is a sliding stud and nut located on the bottom of the door.

From underneath the door, loosen the front window regulator guide rail lock nut.





2. Remove the round reflector located at the bottom of the door trim panel.

3. NOTICE: Use caution when adjusting jackscrews. The 4-mm hex jackscrews strip easily.

NOTE: The clockwise direction of the jackscrew moves the door glass outboard. The counterclockwise direction of the jackscrew moves the door glass inboard.

Loosen the lock nut, adjust the jackscrew on the rear window regulator guide rail as necessary and tighten the lock nut.

- For convertible, adjust the door glass so it is flush to the rear quarter glass seal (division bar) or outward no more than 2 mm (0.08 in).





4. From underneath the door, tighten the front window regulator guide rail lock nut.

5. Initialize the door window motor. For additional information, refer to Window Motor Initialization .

6. NOTE: For convertible vehicles, position the convertible top in the full UP position and the rear quarter glass in the full DOWN position when testing window operation.

Operate the door window up and down several times to check for smooth operation and adequate sealing properties (it may be necessary to carry out a water leak test with a hose).

- If bounce-back occurs, repeat Steps 3 through 5 to adjust the glass as necessary to eliminate the bounce-back condition. If further adjustment is needed, the door window glass clamps may be loosened to allow additional adjustment as required.

7. Install the round reflector.
