Main Control Valve Body
Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Remove the transmission fluid pan drain plug and drain the transmission fluid.
- Discard the transmission fluid pan drain plug gasket.
3. NOTE: Clean the area around the solenoid body connector to prevent contamination.
Disconnect the transmission vehicle harness connector.
4. Disconnect the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) connectors and retaining clip from the RH transmission fluid pan rail and then position the connectors aside.
5. Remove the HO2S connector from the front of the transmission fluid pan rail.
6. NOTE: The transmission fluid pan gasket is reusable. Clean and inspect the gasket for damage. If not damaged, the transmission fluid pan gasket should be reused.
Remove the transmission fluid pan and transmission fluid pan gasket.
7. Remove the transmission fluid filter.
8. Remove the 4 screws attaching the reverse servo to the transmission case and remove the servo.
9. NOTICE: Do not damage the transmission control solenoid body connector pins.
Remove the transmission control solenoid body screws and remove the transmission control solenoid body by lifting on the body and pushing the connector from the other side of the case.
10. Remove the manual valve detent spring.
11. Remove the main control valve body screws and the lower main control valve body assembly.
Installation
1. Install the Valve Body Aligners into the transmission case.
2. Using the Valve Body Aligners, install the lower main control valve body and loosely install the screws.
1. Install the short screw.
2. Install the screw with the larger head.
3. Install the remaining screws.
3. Remove the Valve Body Aligners and loosely install one screw.
4. Tighten the screws in the sequence shown.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
5. Install the manual valve detent spring and screw.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
6. Install the reverse servo and the 4 screws. Tighten the screws in sequence in 2 stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).
7. Install new O-ring seals on the transmission control solenoid body connector. Lubricate the O-ring seals with automatic transmission fluid.
8. NOTICE: Inspect the transmission case bore to make sure it is free of foreign material and not damaged. If damaged, a transmission leak may occur.
Install the transmission control solenoid body. Tighten the screws in the sequence shown.
- Tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
9. NOTICE: Lubricate the transmission fluid pan filter seals with automatic transmission fluid or they may be damaged.
NOTE: Make sure that the transmission fluid pan filter seals are correctly seated on the filter.
Lubricate the transmission fluid pan filter seals and install the transmission fluid filter.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
10. NOTE: The transmission fluid pan gasket is reusable, clean and inspect for damage. If not damaged, the transmission fluid pan gasket should be reused.
Install the transmission fluid pan gasket on the transmission fluid pan.
11. Install the transmission fluid pan and tighten the screws in a crisscross sequence.
- Tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).
12. Install the transmission fluid pan drain plug.
- Install a new transmission fluid pan drain plug gasket onto the transmission fluid pan drain plug.
- Tighten to 26 Nm (19 lb-ft).
13. Install the HO2S connector to the front of the transmission fluid pan rail.
14. Connect the HO2S connector and install the sensor wire retaining clip to the RH side of the transmission fluid pan rail.
15. NOTICE: Damage will occur to the transmission vehicle harness connector if the screw is tightened above specification.
NOTE: Always install new O-ring seals on the transmission vehicle harness connector.
NOTE: Clean the area around the connector to prevent contamination of the solenoid body connector.
NOTE: Use petroleum jelly to lubricate the O-ring seals to aid in the installation process.
Install and lubricate new O-ring seals on the transmission vehicle harness connector and connect the connector.
- Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
