Flywheel Runout Check
Flywheel Runout CheckSpecial Tool(s):
NOTE: Do not reface the flywheel surface. Install a new flywheel as necessary.
1. CAUTION: Do not use petroleum-based cleaning solutions.
NOTE: Always inspect the flywheel whenever the clutch is removed or installed new.
Using a suitable cleaning solution, clean the flywheel clutch surface.
2. Inspect the flywheel for:
^ surface cracks.
^ heat check.
^ glazing.
^ scoring.
^ scratches or grooves.
- For minor damage, finish the flywheel surface with coarse emery cloth or with a fine grade (400 grit) sandpaper.
3. Inspect the ring gear for:
^ worn, chopped or broken teeth.
4. Mount the special tool so that the indicator contact point rides on the clutch disc contact surface.
5. Rotate the flywheel and measure the runout.
^ If the runout exceeds the maximum allowance, install a new flywheel.
