Ignition Coil: Service and Repair







Coil-Per-Plug Unit Removal

NOTE: Front Coil-Per-Plug units removal only.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove two flange bolts and four cap nuts retaining appearance cover to engine.

3. Temporarily remove oil filler cap assembly and remove appearance cover. Reinstall oil filler cap assembly.

4. Disconnect the engine control sensor wiring from the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) deactivation motor.

5. Remove three retaining bolts for the IMRC deactivation motor from the LH cylinder head cover and position the IMRC deactivation motor out of the way.

6. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring connector from Coil-Per-Plug units.

7. Remove Coil-Per-Plug unit retaining bolts and remove Coil-Per-Plug units.

NOTE: Rear Coil-Per-Plug units removal only.

8. Remove the upper intake manifold

9. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring connector from Coil-Per-Plug units.

10. Remove Coil-Per-Plug unit retaining bolts and remove Coil-Per-Plug units.







Installation

NOTE: Front Coil-Per-Plug units only.

1. Install Coil-Per-Plug unit and retaining bolts. Tighten bolts to 8-12 Nm (71 - 106 lb in).

2. Connect engine control sensor wiring connectors to Coil-Per-Plug unit.

3. Position the IMRC deactivation motor onto the LH cylinder head cover. Install and tighten retaining bolts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 lb.in).

4. Connect the engine control sensor wiring to the IMRC deactivation motor.

5. Temporarily remove oil filler cap assembly and install appearance cover. Reinstall oil filler cap assembly. Secure appearance cover to engine with flange bolts and cap nuts.
6. Connect battery ground cable.

NOTE: Rear Coil-Per-Plug units only.

7. Install Coil-Per-Plug units and retaining bolts. Tighten bolts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 lb in)
8. Connect engine control sensor wiring connectors to Coil-Per-Plug unit.

9. Install upper intake manifold
