Diagnostic Routine F
Diagnostic Routine F
Diagnostic Overview
The Windshield Wipers Operate in High Speed Only
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 81 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
REFER to Windshield Wiper Operation .
When the wiper/washer switch is in the HIGH position, the windshield wiper motor also receives a ground signal which is hardwired directly through the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) (bypassing the logic within the module). This fail-safe circuit makes sure that the windshield wipers function in HIGH speed mode in the event of a LIN (Local Interconnect Network) communication failure.
DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) Fault Trigger Conditions
Pinpoint Test
1. CHECK THE FRONT WIPER COMMAND LOW SPEED (F_WIP_SLO_SW) PID (Parameter Identification)
1. Ignition ON.
2. Using a scan tool, view SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
3. While monitoring the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) PID (Parameter Identification) F_WIP_SLO_SW, place the wiper/washer switch into the windshield wiper LOW speed position.
Does the PID (Parameter Identification) read ON when the wiper/washer switch is in the LOW speed position?
2. ISOLATE THE RAIN SENSOR
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Rain Sensor.
3. Ignition ON.
4. Operate the windshield wipers in low speed.
Do the windshield wipers operate in low speed?
3. CHECK THE WIPER PARK OPERATION
1. Place the windshield wiper switch in the HIGH position.
2. When the wiper blades are in the middle of the sweep pattern, place the windshield wiper switch in the OFF position.
Do the windshield wipers complete the sweep and then park correctly?
4. CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR LOGIC GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor.
3. Measure:
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
5. CHECK THE LIN (Local Interconnect Network) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) C2414A.
3. Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor.
4. Measure:
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
6. CHECK THE LIN (Local Interconnect Network) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Measure:
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
7. CHECK THE LIN (Local Interconnect Network) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
1. Ignition ON.
2. Measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
8. CHECK FOR CORRECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Inspect the windshield wiper motor electrical connector.
3. Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminal - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
4. Connect: Windshield Wiper Motor.
5. Connect: SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) C2414A.
6. Connect: Rain Sensor (if equipped).
7. Make sure the electrical connectors seat and latch correctly.
8. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
9. CHECK FOR CORRECT SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) OPERATION
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect and inspect all of the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) electrical connectors.
3. Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminal - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
4. Connect all of the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) electrical connectors.
5. Make sure all electrical connectors seat and latch correctly.
6. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
