Diagnostic Overview

No Power To The Data Link Connector (DLC)

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 14 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The scan tool is connected to the DLC (Data Link Connector) to communicate with the HS-CAN (High Speed Controller Area Network), MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network) and the I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) communication networks. A loss of ground or poor ground at the DLC (Data Link Connector) may result in HS-CAN (High Speed Controller Area Network), MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network) or I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) faults while the scan tool is connected.

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks

Verify BCM (Body Control Module) fuse 24 (15A) is OK.

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE DLC (Data Link Connector) PINS FOR DAMAGE

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect the scan tool cable from the DLC (Data Link Connector).

3. Inspect DLC (Data Link Connector) pins 4, 5 and 16 for damage.

Are DLC (Data Link Connector) pins 4, 5 and 16 OK?

2. CHECK THE DLC (Data Link Connector) VOLTAGE SUPPLY FOR AN OPEN

1. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

3. CHECK THE DLC (Data Link Connector) GROUND CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

1. Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.

2. Measure:

Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
