Diagnostic Overview

No Infotainment Controller Area Network (I-CAN) Communication, All Modules Are Not Responding

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 14 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

REFER to Infotainment Controller Area Network (I-CAN) .

REFER to Controller Area Network (CAN) Fault Tolerance .

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) TERMINATION RESISTANCE

1. Measure:





Is the resistance between 54 and 66 ohms?






2. CHECK THE I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) (+) AND I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Measure:





Are the resistances greater than 1,000 ohms?






3. CHECK THE I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) (+) AND I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

1. Ignition ON.

2. Measure:





Are the voltages greater than 6 volts?






4. CHECK THE I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) TERMINATION RESISTOR

1. Measure:





Is the resistance between 108 and 132 ohms?






5. CHECK THE I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) TERMINATION RESISTOR WITH THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DISCONNECTED

1. Disconnect: IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster).

2. Measure:





Is the resistance between 108 and 132 ohms?






6. CHECK THE I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) AND THE DLC (Data Link Connector) FOR AN OPEN

1. Measure:





Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?






7. CHECK THE I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE ACM (Audio Control Module) AND THE DLC (Data Link Connector) FOR AN OPEN

1. Disconnect: ACM (Audio Control Module) C240A.

2. Measure:





Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?






8. CHECK THE I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) (+) AND I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER

1. Measure:





Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?






9. CHECK THE I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) AND THE DLC (Data Link Connector) FOR AN OPEN

1. Measure:





Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?






10. CHECK THE I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) (+) AND I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER

1. Measure:





2. Disconnect modules, one at a time until the resistance is greater than 5 ohms:

- APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) (if equipped)
- Audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C3154A (if equipped)
- ACM (Audio Control Module) C240A
- FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module)
- FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) (if equipped)
- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

Did the resistance change to greater than 5 ohms with one of the modules disconnected?






11. CHECK THE I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) (+) AND I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE MODULES DISCONNECTED

1. Measure:





2. Disconnect modules, one at a time until the resistance to ground is greater than 1,000 ohms:

- APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) (if equipped)
- Audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C3154A (if equipped)
- ACM (Audio Control Module) C240A
- FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module)
- FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) (if equipped)
- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

Are the resistances greater than 1,000 ohms?






12. CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) AND THE FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) DISABLED
NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

1. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) Fuse 9 (10A).

2. Using a scan tool, perform network test.

3. Repeat the network test.

Do all other I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) modules pass the network test?






13. CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) DISCONNECTED
NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

1. Disconnect: FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) (if equipped).

2. Using a scan tool, perform network test.

Do all other I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) modules pass the network test?






14. CHECK FOR RESTORED NETWORK COMMUNICATION WITH THE AUDIO DSP (Digital Signal Processing) MODULE DISABLED
NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

1. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) Fuse 5 (20A).

2. Using a scan tool, perform network test.

3. Repeat the network test.

Do all other modules pass the network test?






15. CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) AND ACM (Audio Control Module) DISABLED
NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

1. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) Fuse 29 (20A).

2. Using a scan tool, perform network test.

3. Repeat the network test.

Do all other I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) modules pass the network test?






16. CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) DISCONNECTED
NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

1. Disconnect: APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module).

2. Using a scan tool, perform network test.

Do all other I-CAN (Infotainment Controller Area Network) modules pass the network test?






17. CHECK THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) FOR CORRECT OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) connector.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary

4. Reconnect the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

5. Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?






18. CHECK THE AUDIO DSP (Digital Signal Processing) MODULE FOR CORRECT OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module connectors.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary

4. Reconnect the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

5. Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?






19. CHECK THE ACM (Audio Control Module) FOR CORRECT OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect the ACM (Audio Control Module) connectors.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary

4. Reconnect the ACM (Audio Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

5. Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?






20. CHECK THE FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) FOR CORRECT OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) connector.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary

4. Reconnect the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

5. Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?






21. CHECK THE FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) FOR CORRECT OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) connector.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary

4. Reconnect the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

5. Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?






22. CHECK THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) FOR CORRECT OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) connector.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary

4. Reconnect the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

5. Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
