BCM (Body Control Module) DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION

1. Close all doors.

2. Wait one minute.

3. Observe the exterior lights.

Are the headlamps and parking lamps off?

2. CHECK THE INTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION

1. Open and close the driver door.

2. Observe the interior lamps.

Do the interior lamps operate correctly from the driver door?

3. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE BCM (Body Control Module) SELF-TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.

Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) present?

4. CHECK THE BCM (Body Control Module) INPUT PIDs (Parameter Identifications) FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH

1. Using a scan tool, view the BCM (Body Control Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).

2. Select and monitor the BCM (Body Control Module) ignition switch PIDs (Parameter Identifications) (IGN_ACC/RUN), (IGN_RUN/STRT) and (IGN_SW_STATE) while cycling the ignition switch through ACC, OFF, RUN and START states.

Do the BCM (Body Control Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications) match the ignition switch position?

5. CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Remove the key from the ignition cylinder.

3. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280B.

4. Measure:

Is any voltage present?

6. CHECK KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

1. Disconnect: Ignition Switch.

2. Measure:

Is any voltage present?

7. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (Body Control Module) OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect all BCM (Body Control Module) connectors.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary

4. Reconnect the BCM (Body Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present

Is the concern still present?
