Diagnostic Overview

The Power Folding Mirrors Do Not Operate Correctly

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 124 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

NOTE: The power folding mirrors must be synchronized anytime the RH (Right Hand), LH (Left Hand) or both mirrors are folded or unfolded without using the power folding mirror control switch, or if a new power folding mirror has been installed.

NOTE: If the power folding mirrors are folded or unfolded continuously (6 to 10 cycles), the power lockout feature disables the system for approximately 3-10 minutes to prevent damage to the power fold motors. If this occurs, wait approximately 3 minutes with the vehicle running and up to 10 minutes with the vehicle off for the system to reset and mirror function to return to normal.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks

- Inspect the power folding mirror control switch.

- Inspect the power folding exterior mirror.

- Inspect for a binding or obstructed mirror.

- Power folding mirror not synchronized.

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK FOR DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE DSM (Driver Seat Module)

1. Ignition ON.

2. Using a scan tool, perform DSM (Driver Seat Module) self-test.

Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) retrieved?

2. CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE POWER FOLDING MIRRORS

1. Position the exterior mirror control switch to the center position.

2. Press the exterior mirror control switch rearward towards the FOLD/UNFOLD position to activate the power folding mirrors.

Does either the LH (Left Hand) or RH (Right Hand) power folding mirror operate?

3. CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH
NOTICE: The following step uses a test light to simulate normal circuit loads. Use only the test light recommended in the Special Tools table at the beginning. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Flex Probe Kit for the test light probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test light probe directly on any connector.

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: DSM (Driver Seat Module) C341C.

3. Ignition ON.

4. While pressing and releasing the power folding mirror button, monitor:

Did the test light illuminate when the button is pressed and not illuminate when the button is released?

4. CHECK THE FOLDING MOTOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: DSM (Driver Seat Module) C341C.

3. Ignition ON.

4. Measure:

Is any voltage present?

5. CHECK THE FOLDING MOTOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Master Window Control Switch.

3. Measure:

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

6. CHECK THE FOLDING MOTOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

7. CHECK THE FOLDING MIRROR OUTPUT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: LH (Left Hand) and RH (Right Hand) Exterior Mirror.

3. Ignition ON.

4. Measure:

Are any voltages present?

8. CHECK THE FOLDING MIRROR OUTPUT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Measure:

Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?

9. CHECK THE FOLDING MIRROR OUTPUT CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

1. For incorrectly folding LH (Left Hand) mirror, measure:

2. For incorrectly folding RH (Right Hand) mirror, measure:

Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?

10. CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR

2. Disconnect: Incorrectly folding RH (Right Hand) or LH (Left Hand) Exterior Mirror.

3. Ignition ON.

4. For incorrectly folding LH (Left Hand) mirror, while pressing and releasing the power folding mirror button, monitor:

5. For incorrectly folding RH (Right Hand) mirror, while pressing and releasing the power folding mirror button, monitor:

Did the test light illuminate when the button is pressed?

11. CHECK THE POWER FOLD EXTERIOR MIRROR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: DSM (Driver Seat Module) C341C.

3. For incorrectly folding LH (Left Hand) mirror, measure:

4. For incorrectly folding RH (Right Hand) mirror, measure:

Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?

12. CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Master Window Control Switch.

3. Ignition ON.

4. Measure:

Is any voltage present?

13. CHECK THE DSM (Driver Seat Module) FOR CORRECT OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect all DSM (Driver Seat Module) connectors.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

4. Reconnect the DSM (Driver Seat Module) connectors and all previously disconnected exterior system connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
