Pinpoint Test D: DTC U2471

Normal Operation

The Parking Aid Module (PAM) receives the PRNDL state from the Instrument Cluster (IC) as a gateway message from the PCM or the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

- DTC U2471 (Unexpected PRNDL State) - a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets when the PAM receives an unknown PRNDL state message from the IC.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- IC
- Network data fault



PINPOINT TEST D: DTC U2471

D1 CHECK THE DTCs FROM THE ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST


- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: PAM Self-Test.
- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the PAM on-demand self-test.
- Are any DTCs present?

Yes
If DTCs U2471 and U0155 are both present, REFER to Information Bus to diagnose no communication with the IC.

For DTC U2471 only, GO to D2 .

No
The system is operating normally at this time.

D2 VERIFY THE REVERSING LAMPS FUNCTION CORRECTLY


- Move the gearshift lever through the range of positions.
- Do the reversing lamps operate with the gearshift lever in REVERSE (R)?

Yes
GO to D3.

No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.

D3 CHECK FOR CORRECT IC OPERATION


- Disconnect the IC connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the IC connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
