CLEANING
NOTE: If diagnosis has confirmed the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) UREA is contaminated the following should be followed for cleaning the DEF tank.
1. Remove the DEF tank level temperature sensor Diesel Exhaust Fluid Level/Temperature Sensor - Removal.
2. Clean the DEF level/temperature sensor filters (1).
3. Drain the contaminated DEF from tank.
NOTE: If it has been determined that a petroleum based liquids were added to the tank flush the tank with a dish soap.
4. Flush and clean the tank with tap water.
5. Remove and discard the DEF filter Diesel Exhaust Fluid Filter - Removal.
6. Remove the DEF pressure line Diesel Exhaust Fluid Pressure Line - Removal.
7. Remove the DEF supply and return lines Diesel Exhaust Fluid Supply Line - Removal.
8. Flush the pressure, supply, and return lines with tap water.
9. Install the DEF supply and return lines Diesel Exhaust Fluid Supply Line - Installation.
10. Install the DEF pressure line Diesel Exhaust Fluid Pressure Line - Installation.
11. Install a new DEF filter Diesel Exhaust Fluid Filter - Installation.
12. Install the DEF tank level temperature sensor Diesel Exhaust Fluid Level/Temperature Sensor - Installation.
13. Fill the DEF tank with a minimum of 2.5 gallons of good clean DEF fluid.
