Tie Rod End: Service and Repair


REMOVAL
1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove cotter key and nut from tie rod end.

Tie Rod End Puller Installed:




3. Install tie rod end puller Tool C-3894A. Apply sufficient pressure with tool to free tie rod end from knuckle arm or center link.
4. Loosen tie rod sleeve clamping bolt and unscrew tie rod end.

INSTALLATION
1. Screw new tie rod end into sleeve.
2. Connect tie rod end to knuckle arm or center link. Install nut and tighten to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm). Install cotter key.
3. Lower vehicle to floor and adjust toe-in.
4. Position clamp on sleeve so that bolt and clamp opening is in line with slot in sleeve. Tighten clamp nut to 150 to 175 in. lbs. (17 to 20 Nm).
