Battery - Installation
INSTALLATION
WARNING:
To protect the hands from battery acid, a suitable pair of heavy duty rubber gloves should be worn when removing or servicing a battery. Safety glasses also should be worn.
WARNING: Remove metallic jewelry to avoid injury by accidental arcing of battery current.
CAUTION: The negative battery cable remote terminal (2) must be disconnected and isolated from the remote battery post (1) prior to service of the vehicle electrical systems. The negative battery cable remote terminal can be isolated by using the supplied isolation hole (3) in the terminal casing.
CAUTION: Properly support the battery at all times while connecting the battery negative cable.
NOTE: Diesel battery shown, gasoline battery similar.
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable remote terminal from the remote battery post.
2. Raise vehicle on hoist, Maintenance.
3. Partially place the battery (2) onto the battery tray (3) so that the battery negative cable and battery negative post are accessible.
4. Install the battery negative cable pinch clamp (4) onto the battery negative post. Tighten the pinch clamp nut to 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.)
5. Slide the battery forward so that it is properly positioned on the battery tray.
6. Holding it in a horizontal position, install the battery hold down (2) by engaging the rod into the mounting slot in the battery tray (8) and rotating it forward.
7. Install the battery hold down bolt (3). Tighten the bolt to 16 Nm (142 in. lbs.)
8. Position the rear battery tray support (1) onto the battery tray (6).
9. Install the lower battery tray support bolt (4). Tighten both rear battery tray support bolts to 16 Nm (142 in. lbs.)
10. Install the battery positive cable clamp (6) onto the battery positive post (3). Tighten the pinch clamp nut to 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.)
11. Install the forward, front wheelhouse splash shield, Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield - Installation.
12. Install the left front wheel and tire assembly.
13. Lower the vehicle.
14. Install the negative battery cable remote terminal onto the remote battery post. Tighten the nut to 16.5 Nm (145 in. lbs.)
