A/C Condenser - Removal







REMOVAL

WARNING: Refer to the applicable warnings and cautions for this system before performing the following operation Warning and Caution. Failure to follow the warnings and cautions could result in possible personal injury or death.

NOTE: If an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred, the desiccant and filter assembly within the A/C receiver/drier must be replaced.

NOTE: Before removing the A/C condenser, note the location of each of the radiator and condenser air seals. These seals are used to direct air through the A/C condenser and the radiator. The air seals must be reinstalled in their proper locations in order for the A/C and engine cooling systems to perform as designed.





NOTE: Right side radiator end seal shown in illustration. Left side air seal similar.

1. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Recovery.
2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the radiator closure panel Removal.
4. Remove the front fascia.
5. Remove the retaining pins (1) that secure the radiator end air seals (2) to the front of the A/C condenser (3) and remove the air seals.




6. Disconnect the wire harness connector (6) from the ambient temperature sensor (2) located on the left side of the A/C condenser (7).
7. Remove the push-pin retainer (1) that secures the ambient temperature sensor to the A/C condenser and remove the sensor.
8. Disconnect the automatic transmission cooler lines (3) from the transmission fluid cooler portion of the A/C condenser.
9. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened automatic transmission cooler line fittings and cooler ports.
10. Remove the bolt (4) that secures the left side of the A/C condenser to the radiator (5).




11. Remove the nut (1) that secures the A/C discharge line (2) to the right side of the A/C condenser (4).
12. Disconnect the A/C discharge line from the A/C condenser and remove and discard the O-ring seal and gasket.
13. Remove the bolt (3) that secures the right side of the A/C condenser to the radiator (5).




NOTE: Right side lower condenser mounting bracket shown in illustration. Left side bracket similar.

14. Remove the nut (3) that secures the A/C liquid line (2) to the right side of the A/C condenser (4).
15. Disconnect the A/C liquid line from the A/C condenser and remove and discard the O-ring seal and gasket.
16. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and condenser ports.
17. Partially lift the A/C condenser to disengage each lower condenser bracket (1) from the mounting tab (5) located on each end of the radiator.
18. Carefully tilt the bottom of the A/C condenser forward and lower the condenser out from the front of the engine compartment.
