Front Propeller Shaft Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

2. Mark the relationship of the front propeller shaft U-Joint to the differential yoke.





3. Remove the front propeller shaft retainer bolts.





4. Remove the U-Joint retainers.

5. Remove the front propeller shaft front the front differential.





Note:
The following procedure is to ensure that the U-Joint bearings and caps DO NOT become separated. This will prevent the lost of the needle bearings inside the bearing cap.

6. Tape the U-Joint bearing caps together.





7. Remove the front propeller shaft from the transfer case.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the front propeller shaft in the transfer case.





2. Remove the tape from the propeller shaft U-Joint.





Note:
Ensure that the alignment marks on the U-Joint and the yoke are aligned for proper installation.

3. Install the front propeller shaft in the front differential yoke.





4. Install the propeller shaft retainers.





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

5. Install the propeller shaft retainer bolts and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).

6. Check the fluid level of the front differential. Refer to Front Axle Lubricant Level Inspection Front Drive Axle.

7. Inspect the fluid level of the transfer case.

8. Lower the vehicle.
