Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement (JH5, JH6)

Warning:

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.

Caution:
Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

3. Without disconnecting the hydraulic brake hose, remove the brake caliper and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent. 4. Remove the brake pads from the brake caliper mounting bracket.

5. Remove the brake pad springs from the brake caliper bracket.





6. Remove the brake caliper bracket bolts (2).

7. Remove the brake caliper bracket (1).

8. Remove any contaminants or foreign material from the inside ends of the brake caliper bracket.

9. Clean the mounting surface and threads of the brake caliper bracket.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the brake caliper bracket (1).

2. Prepare the brake caliper bolts for installation:

* Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.

* Clean the threads of the bolt with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.

* Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to 2/3 of the threaded portion of the brake caliper bracket bolts.

* Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately 10 minutes before installation.

Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

3. Install the brake caliper bracket bolts (2) and tighten to 200 Nm (148 lb ft).





4. Install the brake pad springs to the brake caliper mounting bracket.

5. Install the brake pads to the brake caliper mounting bracket.

6. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (JH5, JH6) Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (JH5, JH6)Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (JH9) Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (JH9).

7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.

8. With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance.

9. Slowly release the brake pedal.

10. Wait 15 seconds, then repeat steps 8-9 until a firm pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
