Battery Positive and Negative Cable Replacement (LEA)

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

2. Remove the underhood fuse block cover.





3. Remove the negative battery cable nut (1) and terminal (2), from the underhood fuse block.





4. Remove the battery positive cable nut (1) and cable (4) from the fuse block.

5. Loosen the battery positive clamp nut (1) and remove the battery positive cable (3) from the battery.





6. Remove the starter heat shield screw (1) and the starter heat shield (2), from the starter.





7. Remove the battery positive cable nut (1) from the starter solenoid.

8. Remove the battery positive cable (2) from the starter.





9. Remove the battery negative cable ground bolt (1) from the engine block.

10. Remove the ground terminal (2) from the transmission housing.





Note:
Observe how the battery positive and negative cable was routed within the engine compartment.

11. Remove the battery positive and negative cable (1) from the engine compartment.

Installation Procedure





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

1. Install the battery positive cable (2) to the starter solenoid. Tighten to the nut (1) to 10 Nm (89 lb in).





2. Install the starter heat shield (2), with the screw (1), to the starter.





3. Install the battery negative cable terminal (2) and bolt (1) to the engine block. Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).

4. Secure the battery positive and negative cable to the engine with fasteners.





5. Install the battery negative cable (4) and bolt (1) to the engine fuse block. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

6. Install the battery positive cable clamp to the battery post and tighten the nut (2) to 10 Nm (89 lb in).





7. Install the negative battery cable (2) and nut (1) to the fuse block and tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb in).

8. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

9. Install the fuse block cover.
