Indirect Fuel Injector Replacement

Special Tools

CH 49736 - Hydrocarbon Injector Quick Connect Release Tool

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools (Special Tools).

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the indirect fuel injector fasteners (1) and (2).
3. Remove the indirect injector fitting from the turbocharger exhaust pipe.
Warning: Refer to Relieving Fuel Pressure Warning (Service Precautions).

4. Relieve the fuel pressure.




5. Remove the indirect fuel injector line retainer from the fitting.
6. Remove the indirect fuel injector line (1) using the CH 49736 - tool.
7. Remove the injector (2).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the indirect fuel injector line retainer to the fitting.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the indirect fuel injector (2) and tighten the fitting to 45 Nm (33 lb ft).




3. Install the indirect fuel injector fasteners (1) and (2) to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
4. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).

Note: The indirect fuel injector and its fuel lines must be purged of air any time it is removed or replaced. Failure to do so may damage the injector. Perform the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Enable any time the indirect injector or its fuel lines are removed or replaced. This will force a regeneration as soon as conditions allow and will purge any air from the system.

5. Perform the Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration. Refer to Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Enable (Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Enable).
