Engine Flywheel Replacement

* J 44643 Flywheel Holding Tool
* J 45059 Angle Meter
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement (Removal and Replacement).
2. Install the J 44643 in order to lock the flywheel.
3. Remove and discard the flywheel bolts.
4. Remove the flywheel washer.
5. Remove the flywheel assembly.
6. Remove the J 44643 .
Installation Procedure
1. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft.
2. Install the flywheel washer to the flywheel with the beveled side facing the engine.
Caution: This component uses bolts with a preapplied molybdenum disulfide coating for thread lubrication. Do not remove the coating or use any additional lubricant. Improperly lubricated threads will adversely affect the bolt torque and clamp load. Improper bolt torque and clamp load can lead to engine damage.
3. Install NEW flywheel bolts until snug.
4. Install the J 44643 in order to lock the flywheel.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
5. Tighten the flywheel bolts in the sequence shown.
* Tighten the bolts a first pass to 79 Nm (59 lb ft).
* Tighten the bolts a second pass an additional 60 degrees using the J 45059 .
* Tighten the bolts a final pass an additional 60 degrees using the J 45059 .
6. Remove the J 44643 .
7. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement (Removal and Replacement).
