Thermostat Bypass Hose: Service and Repair

Coolant Bypass Hose Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
2. Drain the engine cooling system.
3. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank.
4. Remove the upper fan shroud.
5. For vehicles with the 4.3L and 5.0/5.7L engines, disconnect the by-pass hose from the water pump.





6. For vehicles with the 8.1L engine, disconnect the by-pass hose from the water pump.





7. For vehicles with the 6.5L diesel engine, disconnect the by-pass hose from the water pump.
8. Remove the by-pass hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the by-pass hose to the vehicle.
2. For vehicles with the 6.5L diesel engine, connect the by-pass hose to the water pump.





3. For vehicles with the 8.1L engine, connect the by-pass hose to the water pump.





4. For vehicles with the 4.3L and 5.0/5.7L engines, connect the by-pass hose to the water pump.
5. Install the upper fan shroud.
6. Install the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank.
7. Refill the engine cooling system.
8. Install the air cleaner assembly.
