Front Brake Hose Replacement (J56)
Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning (Brake Fluid Irritant Warning).

Removal Procedure
1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
3. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and the brake pipe fittings.
4. Remove the wheel speed sensor wiring harness retainers from the brake hose bracket.
5. Remove the front brake hose bracket bolts (1).
6. Disconnect the brake pipe fitting (1) from the brake hose (3).
Cap the brake pipe fitting to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
7. Using a flat-bladed tool, remove the brake hose retainer (2) from the brake hose.
8. Remove the brake hose (1) from the brake hose bracket (2).
9. Remove the brake hose fitting bolt (4) from the brake caliper (1).
10. Remove the brake hose (2) from the brake caliper.
Plug the brake caliper inlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
11. Place a shop towel on a hard surface.
12. Tap the threaded end of the brake hose fitting bolt on the shop towel to remove the gaskets (3) from the bolt.
13. Remove and discard the two copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.
Installation Procedure
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
1. Install the front brake hose bracket bolts (1).
Tighten the bolts to 14 Nm (124 lb in).
2. Remove the plug from the brake caliper inlet port.
Note: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.
3. Assemble the brake hose (2), the NEW copper brake hose gaskets (3), and the brake hose fitting bolt (4) to the brake hose).
4. Install the brake hose fitting bolt to the brake caliper (1).
Tighten the bolt to 34 Nm (25 lb ft).
5. Install the brake hose (1) to the brake hose bracket (2).
Note: The tapered end of the hose retainer must be installed toward the brake pipe.
6. Install the brake hose retainer (2) to the brake hose (3).
7. Remove the cap from the brake pipe fitting.
8. Install the brake pipe fitting (1) to the brake hose.
Tighten the fitting to 18 Nm (13 lb ft).
9. Install the wheel speed sensor wiring harness retainers to the brake hose bracket.
10. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) (Service and Repair)Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure) (Service and Repair).
11. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
12. Lower the vehicle.
