A Preliminary Information
IMPORTANT: The following steps must be completed before using the symptom tables.1. Perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check before using the following Symptom Tables in order to verify that all of the following are true:
^ There are no DTCs set.
^ The control module(s) can communicate via the serial data link.
2. Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions.
^ Instrument Cluster Operation
^ Instrument Cluster Gauge Operation
^ Instrument Cluster Odometer Operation
^ Instrument Cluster Indicator Operation
Visual/physical Inspection
^ Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the system. Refer to Checking Aftermarket Accessories in Diagrams, Diagnostic Aids.
^ Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
Intermittent
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent and Poor Connections in Diagrams, Diagnostic Aids, Troubleshooting Tools.

Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom:
^ Brake Pad Wear Indicator Always On
^ Brake Pad Wear Indicator Inoperative
^ Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Inaccurate or Inoperative
^ Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Always Low (Warning Off W/Low Oil Pressure) or Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Always Low (Warning On W/Normal Oil Pressure)
^ Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Always Low (Warning Off W/Low Oil Pressure) or Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Always Low (Warning On W/Normal Oil Pressure)
^ Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Inaccurate or Inoperative
^ Fuel Gauge Inaccurate or Inoperative
^ Speedometer and/or Odometer Inoperative
^ Tachometer Inoperative
^ Fuel Cap Missing Indicator Always On
^ Fuel Cap Missing Indicator Inoperative
^ Low Engine Oil Level Indicator Always On
^ Low Engine Oil Level Indicator Inoperative
