Camshaft Cover Replacement (Right)

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement
2. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement.
3. Remove the coil pack. Refer to Ignition Coil(s) Replacement (RH Side) or Ignition Coil(s) Replacement (LH Side).
4. Remove the knock sensor wire harness nut and bracket.
5. Remove the camshaft cover bolts.
6. Remove the camshaft cover.
7. Remove the camshaft cover seals.

Important: Ensure all eight sealing O-rings are accounted for. The O-rings may stick to the camshaft bearing caps or they may fall into the oil return journals in the cylinder head.

8. Clean the camshaft cover.
9. Clean the sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure





1. Lightly coat new seals, including the O-rings, with engine oil prior to installation to assist in holding the O-ring seals to the camshaft cover.
2. Install the camshaft cover seals.
3. Apply a thin coat of silicone sealer GM P/N 12345997 at the front and at the back of the seals.
4. Install the camshaft cover to the cylinder head.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the camshaft cover bolts.
Tighten the camshaft cover bolts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
6. Install the knock sensor wire harness bracket and nut.
Tighten the knock sensor wire harness bracket nut until fully seated and not stripped.
7. Install the coil pack. Refer to Ignition Coil(s) Replacement (RH Side) or Ignition Coil(s) Replacement (LH Side).
8. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement
9. Install the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement.
10. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
