Traction Off Message On With No DTC Set
Circuit Description
The TRACTION OFF message is controlled by the EBTCM. When the EBTCM sees the Traction Control Switch Input grounded through the momentary traction control switch, it disables Traction Control and sends a class 2 serial data message to the instrument cluster (IPC) to turn the TRACTION OFF message on. Each time the ignition switch is cycled OFF to ON, Traction Control is enabled.
Diagnostic Aids
^ Perform a thorough inspection of the wiring and the connectors. Failure to carefully and fully inspect wiring and connectors may result in misdiagnosis, causing part replacement with reappearance of the malfunction.
^ An intermittent malfunction may be caused by poor connections, broken insulation, or a wire that is broken inside the insulation.
^ It an intermittent malfunction exists, refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections.
Test Description
1. The numbers below refer to step numbers on the diagnostic table.
2. This step tests the state of the traction control switch.
3. This step tests the traction control switch and circuit for a short to ground.
4. This step tests the instrument cluster for the ability to operate the TRACTION OFF message. The EBTCM sends a serial data class 2 message to the instrument cluster. This test is done to see if the EBTCM can not send the message or the instrument cluster can not receive the message and act on the message properly.
