Chart 3 Powertrain Ground Check
Diagnostic Chart:
Electrical Circuit:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
Three vehicle grounds are essential for proper powertrain system operation. They are:
1. Ground G100, located on the right front corner of the engine compartment in front of the battery.
2. Ground G102, located on the right rear corner of the engine block, below and to the right of the rear exhaust manifold.
3. Ground G401, located on the front side of the left rear seat diagonal brace.
Ground G401 is the ground location for the fuel pump. Ground G100 is the battery ground. Ground G102 is the ground for all powertrain electronics including the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Loose or poor ground connections may cause widely varying problems, from flickering telltales to PCM codes to several driveability problems. This check should be performed when referred to by other diagnostics or when erratic or intermittent problems defy traditional diagnosis.
